After David Fifita’s future dominated the headlines last year as loopholes in his contract drove the Gold Coast Titans to distraction, there appears to be a new player in town for 2025.

Dylan Brown inked a long-term deal with Parramatta three years ago which was set to keep him at the Eels until 2031.

However, unique clauses embedded within the deal soon came to light which will allow the five-eighth to exit the club at various stages.

Dylan Brown contract clauses at Parramatta Eels, explained

Just a few months out from the new NRL campaign beginning, a bombshell development was unearthed with Brown’s management shopping him to prospective buyers.

The 24-year-old reportedly has until Round 10 this year to re-commit to the Eels, otherwise he will be free to explore his options.

Fifita also went through this scenario in 2024, which ultimately led to a bizarre turn of events that saw him sign and then backflip on joining the Sydney Roosters.

Could a similar scenario be about to unfold with the New Zealand international?

Brown’s manager, Chris Orr, caused a stir when The Sydney Morning Herald revealed he had sent an email out to a host of clubs to gauge interest in his client.

"Please revert back to Gavin and I on email to register your clubs interest in securing the services of Dylan Brown for season 2026 and beyond," the email from Pacific Sports Management read.

"Once we finalise the level of interest, we will work with you to set up an appropriate time to catch up with Dylan.

"These type of ‘Franchise Players’ don’t come on the market very often."

Brown signed his long-term deal at the end of 2022, although some unique clauses were written into it.

The Kiwi star will be able to leave the Eels at the end of this season if he opts to not activate a player option in his favour in a few months.

However, should he shun interest from elsewhere to remain with Parra, that doesn’t necessarily mean the drama is over.

Brown could then be available to leave at the end of the 2027 campaign rather than staying through until 2031.

"It’s purely just for security," Brown explained last year when asked about his confusing contract.

"When you sign the deal, you want to know what your future is so you can focus on playing good footy - that’s why we signed that contract.

"Parramatta has got trust in me and I respect that."
