'So rare': Roosters coach heaps praise on James Tedesco ahead of potential Origin recall image

Trent Robinson has declared it "an honour" to work with James Tedesco after the Roosters defeated the Dolphins at Magic Round.

The Tricolours coach was full of praise for his veteran – who sat next to him during the press conference – on Friday night.

Tedesco ran for a game-high 271 metres and recorded two try assists as the Chooks claimed a 36-26 victory.

The fullback is one of the most in-form fullbacks in the NRL at present, averaging a remarkable 203 run metres.

"I don’t know what to say about Ted. I said congratulations on another typical game – he’s just an absolute pleasure to coach," Robinson said.

"To watch (him) during the week, prepare, the mentality that he goes into every day to turn up then he goes into a game ... like it’s just ... it is so rare to watch someone do what he does every week for so many years.

"Coaches don’t say that about someone sitting next to them because they’re worried it will change the way that they think, but I don’t have any fear of that because I know the way that he is and the way he prepares every day and every single week.

"It’s just what he does. He’s such a great leader for us.

"It’s just an honour as a coach. I’ve been really lucky to coach some really great players and Ted stands up there with them all.

"I’m feeling how lucky it is to watch ... like I’ve got the best spectator spot to watch him go around, and I don’t have enough words to say how good he is as a player and the way he prepares to play.

"It’s not just the way he plays, people get to watch that, but I get to see all the work that goes into that."

Robinson's words come amid a potential State of Origin recall for 'Teddy'.

The 32-year-old lost his NSW and Kangaroos jersey to Panthers No. 1 Dylan Edwards last year.

However, with Penrith sitting last on the ladder and Tedesco in scintillating form, a return to the Origin arena for the Roosters star is a strong possibility.

Robinson believes new Blues coach Laurie Daley can't make a "wrong decision" considering the quality of the two players.

"Dylan Edwards is an amazing player. They’re all great players, it’s just who the coach wants to choose, you can’t go wrong with Ted and everything that he’s done, and you can’t go wrong with Dylan," he said.

"It’s just the choice of the coach, there is no right or wrong decision. It’s whatever the coach feels is right for his team.

"There are other positions that we can debate, I don’t think fullback is one, it’s just the choice of the coach."
