Ben Simmons landing spots: Australian former All-Star enters free agency image

The Los Angeles Clippers have been eliminated from post-season contention, downed in seven games by the Denver Nuggets.

As a result, it means that Ben Simmons is officially a free agent, available to sign with any team in the league.

With Simmons starting the season as a Brooklyn Net and closing it out as a Clipper, where will the former All Star end up next year?

Where will Ben Simmons sign next?

After 18 games for the Los Angeles Clippers, as well as a seven-game first-round playoff series, Ben Simmons will enter free agency.

His production has dipped significantly since his early days in Philadelphia which saw him named as an All-Star and All-NBA player, but at 28 years old Simmons still possesses the play making and defensive acumen to be valuable to contending teams.

Los Angeles Clippers

While the Clippers only got a small sample size of Simmons, could it have been enough for them to bring him back to LA?

Simmons provided defensive versatility off the bench for the team, guarding Nikola Jokić during key stretches of their series, and while he struggled to score he brought his trademark play making to the team's second unit.

After another first round loss, the Clippers may change their direction which could impact Simmons' chances, but if they keep their current path the Australian could be a welcome re-signing for Tyronn Lue's squad.

Cleveland Cavaliers

After Simmons was bought out by Brooklyn mid-season, it came down to Los Angeles and Cleveland to claim his signature.

If the Clippers go another direction, the Cavs could come calling for Simmons, helping to bolster their team which already boasts incredible depth.

His role may be scaled down for Cleveland, who have plenty of ball-handlers on their roster, but he would undoubtedly be an interesting addition to the top regular season team in the East.

Philadelphia 76ers

They say you should never go back to your ex... but could a reunion be on the table here?

Simmons is no longer the player he used to be, but the 76ers aren't the team they used to be either, dealing with questions around both Joel Embiid and Paul George, while a rising star in Tyrese Maxey waits in the wings.

In a smaller role, akin to Draymond Green in Golden State, Simmons could return as an offensive hub while not being required to make the level of shots previously expected of him which sparked the end of his first stint in Philly.

Golden State Warriors

Speaking of Draymond Green, how about signing with the coach in Steve Kerr that has been unable to unlock the former DPOY?

The Warriors have long been rumoured as a landing spot for Simmons over the past few years, and with Green clearly declining, he could help the Australian fit right into that role.

Sure, he might have a bumpy past with Jimmy Butler, but winning cures everything, and Simmons could flourish alongside Steph Curry and the Warriors.

Houston Rockets

The Rockets feel like they're at a crossroads this off-season; they finished as the second-seed in a loaded West but have been pushed to seven games by the seven-seed Warriors, and feel as though they lack the clear number one to be a true contender.

Houston have a deep bull-pen of young prospects, and the smart money would be on the team moving a number of these in exchange for a real superstar, which would raise their ceiling while slightly clearing out their bench.

Enter Simmons, a hard-nosed defender and pass-first wing who could make up for these losses depending on how their roster ends up taking shape.
