Georgia quarterback Carson Beck has entered the transfer portal.
The quarterback is still rehabbing the elbow injury that kept him from playing in the College Football Playoff. And while he declared for the 2025 NFL draft in late December, it appears that his Instagram post announcing that decision has been deleted.
Ultimately, Beck could still end up entering the 2025 NFL Draft. But for now, his sights seem to be set on exploring his NCAA options.
Beck joined Georgia in 2020 but ended up redshirting since the team still had Stetson Bennett. He sat behind Bennett for two years, both ending in national titles for the Dawgs. When Bennett went to the NFL, Beck finally got his chance to start. He wasn't able to get Georgia to three-peat, but he did throw for 3,941 yards with 24 touchdowns and six interceptions over 14 games as a starter.

Beck is eligible for the 2025 NFL Draft. His draft stock dipped with a down year, and he may not be able to go through offseason pre-draft workouts due to the elbow injury he sustained in the SEC Championship game. Beck has entered the portal to give him the maximum amount of flexibility with his options.
The quarterback is allowed to test the portal while also keeping an eye on the NFL. This was something that Miami quarterback Cam Ward did last season. He had just finished a season with Washington State and like Beck, Ward had previously declared for the NFL draft before ultimately ending up at Miami. Ward ended up coming back to Miami and now is expected to be a top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Where will Carson Beck play next season?
While it isn't certain that he will transfer and stay in college, a school has already popped up as a favorite for him. Miami will be in need of a quarterback in 2025. Ward is expected to not only be a first round pick, but could go as high as No. 1 overall due to how much the Titans -- who currently hold the No. 1 overall pick -- like him. In the NIL era though, it could be whichever program offers Beck the best deal while giving him the best chance to improve his draft stock.

Beck's 2023 season had Georgia as favorites to win another national title in 2024. He struggled with his accuracy as the Bulldogs took a step back, especially for the high bar the program has recently set for itself. Beck's draft stock also took a bit of a dip as many no longer considered him a first round pick, with some even wondering if he would be selected by the third round. There were concerns about his accuracy and his doubling of interceptions in 2024 from 2023 didn't help.
With the elbow injury possibly making it so that Beck can't go through the normal pre-draft process and workout for interested teams, it wouldn't be surprising if he does end up transferring. Miami makes a lot of sense because we have seen what the program did for Ward. Beck could always still make the jump to the NFL and bet on himself, but it feels like there's a lot of positives that could come from healing from the injury and putting another good season's worth of highlights out there.

How old is Carson Beck?
Beck joined the Bulldogs in 2020. He redshirted and then has some extra years of eligibility due to Covid-19. Beck will turn 24 next season, and while that used to be ancient for rookies in the NFL, the extra Covid years have really changed that. Even if he did return to college for another year, he would turn 25 during his rookie season, but that shouldn't become a factor until he is nearing 30 and in need of a second contract. Assuming he doesn't suffer another injury, 2025 would be Beck's last year of eligibility.

Beck suffered his elbow injury in the 2024 SEC Championship against Texas. It was nearly halftime, and Georgia was trying to score after getting the ball back with 32 seconds left. Beck was pressured after escaping the pocket, rolled left and then tried to heave the ball downfield. While his arm was coming forward, it got hit by Texas defenders.

It resulted in a fumble and the quarterback was only able to return to the game late. He wasn't able to do much, and just handed the ball off to running back Trevor Etienne for a four-yard score in overtime after backup quarterback Gunner Stockton needed to be checked for a concussion.
Beck was diagnosed with a tear in his ulnar collateral ligament. The injury required surgery, which went well and now the quarterback is rehabbing the injury. He is expected to be able to start throwing again sometime this spring, but will likely have to go through a whole ramp up throwing program.
