When are Gout and Kennedy racing next?

Gout and Kennedy will next square off at the Australian Athletics Championships - which will be held from Thursday, April 10 until Sunday, April 13.

They will race in the men's senior 200m with the heats and final to be held on Sunday, April 13.

However, they will not race against each other in the 100m, with Gout registering for the under-20 category and Kennedy listed for the senior event.

Gout and Kennedy rivalry

Despite Gout getting most of the attention as a 17-year-old sprint sensation, Kennedy has struck two blows in their head-to-head battle.

Kennedy is actually Australia's current fastest man with a 100m personal best of 10.03, while Gout's best time over the distance is a wind-assisted 10.04.

In the 200m, Gout has the Australian record with a sizzling time of 19.98, but he was beaten by Kennedy over that distance at the Maurie Plant Event with the older competitor clocking 20.26 to 20.30.

According to Gout's coach Di Sheppard, the teenager was privately seething that he was beaten by Kennedy despite a warm embrace after the race and he was keen to use the feeling to motivate himself in the future.

"I know he’s quite angry about that," Sheppard told the 7:30 report.

"Everything we’ve done is a step forward, it’s all about learning how to cope with this environment as well, so I think he’s doing a great job.

"Just remember he’s a 17-year-old boy … and he’s got a bright future."
