Breakout Knights youngster Fletcher Sharpe has signed a contract extension through to the end of 2028.

Sharpe was due to come off contract at the end of 2026 but the local junior has opted to re-up with Newcastle.

A versatile outside back, Sharpe debuted in round 14 last year, deputising for Kalyn Ponga at fullback before later moving to the wing.

In his 12 first-grade games, Sharpe scored 11 tries, showcasing his attacking prowess.

Knights recruitement boss Peter O'Sullivan spoke about the 20-year-old following the news of his extension.

“I have admired Fletcher from afar for a long time," O’Sullivan said.

“Watching him go about his work at the back end of last year and again in this off season, has further opened my eyes. He is a talented and hard-working player.

“Last year Adam O’Brien spoke about him being a genuine footy player, no matter where you played him or whatever the role you give him, he just gets the job done.

“Fletcher has proven he is natural try scorer, he puts himself in the right spot and finds the try line.

“He is a local Newcastle boy through and through, exactly the type of player and person you can build a Club around and we are delighted he is extending his career with the Newcastle Knights.”

Newcastle get their 2025 campaign underway at Campbelltown against the Tigers on Friday, March 7.
