'The real truth will come out': David Fifita addresses shock Titans axing image

David Fifita has spoken on being dropped to reserve grade, declaring: "it is what it is."

The Gold Coast star was dropped by coach Des Hasler for Magic Round, and will instead line up for Ipswich in the Queensland Cup this weekend.

Fifita, who reportedly earns $1,000,000 a season, has had a mixture campaign to date.

He has been used off the bench in four of six matches in 2025, scoring just one try.

The 25-year-old failed to run for over 100 metres in a game until Round 6 before being sidelined with a hamstring strain the following week.

Following the surprise axing, he has hinted at a behind-the-scenes "reason" behind the decision.

Despite this, he insists he will put his head down and get to work.

"I’m not going to whinge about it," Fifita told News Corp.

"I love playing football, I’ve done the captain’s run and the Jets are a great club so I will put on the Jets jersey and represent them the best I can.

"I’ll be giving 100 per cent. It is what it is. I’m just excited to play with some of these lads, I know a few guys from the Titans so I’ll play the best I can for the guys.

"There is a reason for why this has happened but the real truth will come out one day. Everyone doesn’t know the real story.

"There is so much speculation, but I’m playing for Ipswich and I’ll be cheering on the Titans boys as well. I hope they win."

Last season, Fifita backflipped on a deal with the Roosters, instead opting to remain on the Gold Coast.

Weeks later, he was left out of Billy Slater's Queensland squad for all three Origin matches.

The Titans are struggling again this year, which is likely to make a representative recall even harder for the forward to obtain.

Fifita has still reaffirmed his commitment to his club side despite the ongoing turbulence.

"I know the real me. I know what I can do when I feel happy and comfortable and what side I want to play on," he said.

"I do want to stay. I am happy at the Titans and I love the club.

"At the moment, I’m focusing on Ipswich, I want to get a win for them and I want to get back to the NRL."
