Western Bulldogs have invited former Gold Coast Suns ruckman Brayden Crossley to train with the club.

The 25-year-old's trial with the club will only be at the Bulldogs' Queensland pre-season camp to start, with an intraclub match being played in Maroochydore on Sunday, the AFL reports.

However, it is possible the 198cm ruck's trial is extended for when the club returns to Victoria and he could compete for a list spot as a pre-season supplemental selection.

Crossley was pivotal in Southport's run to the VFL grand final last season and was also selected in the competition team of the year squad.

He played 10 games for the Suns between 2018-19 but was delisted after testing positive for cocaine on matchday of a Gold Coast NEAFL match in May 2019.

Crossley was banned for 12 months for the doping infringement but has since has rebuilt his career after signing for Southport in 2021.

Western Bulldogs no.1 ruck Tim English is currently struggling with an abdominal issue and the club lack backup since the departure of Jordon Sweet to Port Adelaide.

Both Sam Darcy and Rory Lobb could ruck if required but coach Luke Beveridge has shown a preference for the duo to play forward and back respectively.

The Bulldogs also currently have Werribee midfielder Dom Brew training with the club in hope of winning a list position.
