Nick Kyrgios has been beaten in straight sets by British talent Jacob Fearnley in the first round of the Australian Open at John Cain Arena on Monday night.

The Australian appeared to be struggling with an abdominal issue as he battled his way to defeat in two hours, 19 minutes.

After Kyrgios' resistance was broken in the first set tiebreaker, the Aussie collapsed in the second set and went down a break early in the third.

But riding a wave of crowd support and dip in level from Fearnley, Kyrgios broke back and even earned a set point before the Brit rallied.

Fearnley - in only his third match at a major - played a brilliant match and managed to close out the tiebreaker comfortably and set up a second-round match with Sebastian Baez.

The Sporting News followed the Nick Kyrgios vs. Jacob Fearnley match live, providing score updates, commentary, and highlights as it happened.
