It's the words that NBA fans have been waiting years to hear - Kawhi Leonard is back.

After enduring a horror run of injuries, the Los Angeles Clippers star returned to action in January, helping his team down the stretch en route to 50 wins and the fifth seed in the West.

But since the post-season begun, the real Leonard has reappeared, putting together a dominant first round run against Denver in a new colour of his fourth signature shoe.

Kawhi Leonard needs no introduction, a proven playoff performer who has claimed titles and Final's MVPs for two different franchises - San Antonio and Toronto.

But after a tough run of injuries, it appears he's back to his winning ways in round one, putting up dominant numbers as he fuels his Clippers during a tough matchup with the Nuggets.

Leonard has eclipsed 20 points in all five games of the series so far, including a 39-point spectacular in a Game 2 win, followed by 21 and 11 rebounds in Game 3.

He is averaging 25.2 points, 7.6 rebounds, 5.2 assists, and 1.2 steals per game, with his dominant two-way abilities reminding everyone why he was long considered a top 10 player in the league.

"It’s like another four, five seeding series," Leonard said following a last-second loss in Game 4.

"You usually get some tough battles in these seedings. You guys watched the ending of the last two weeks, three weeks of the season and everybody was fighting.

"I think we pretty much have the same record. So, that’s how it is. The matchups might be different, different styles of play, but both teams are fighting to win."

The Clippers star has been putting in work in the New Balance Kawhi IV, primarily in the 'Wave' colourway, as well as the 'Tiago' colourway in collaboration with NB skater Tiago Lemos.

While the team may currently be down 3-2, after losing a tough Game 5 in Denver, Leonard will no doubt be ready for another iconic playoff moment as the series shifts back to California later this week.
