Jamal Fogarty’s $2 million move to the Sea Eagles from 2026 is one of the most significant signings of the NRL season, and it could signal a stylistic shift in Manly’s engine room.
The Raiders halfback, who’s been pivotal in Canberra’s strong start to 2025, has confirmed his departure, admitting it was a difficult call but one driven by both opportunity and circumstance.
“I’m pretty gutted to be leaving,” Fogarty told The Courier-Mail’s Pete Badel. “I’ve got great relationships with coaches and players here, and we [my family] love how slow and laid back it is in Canberra. I’m excited and grateful for the opportunity that Manly have given me for the next three years.”

The 30-year-old’s departure is more than just a financial move. With Daly Cherry-Evans nearing the end of his storied career, Fogarty offers a contrasting option at halfback that could better align with Seibold’s approach.
A better tactical fit under Seibold?
Speaking on SEN’s The Captain’s Run, former Brisbane Broncos flyer Denan Kemp suggested Fogarty’s style could be more in sync with what coach Anthony Seibold demands from his No. 7.
“DCE is very much, I will play what I see in front of me. To my understanding, Seibold is very much... I wouldn't say strict, I would just say structured to a degree,” Kemp said.

“So, I wonder if that might help Seibold and Fogarty’s relationship to a degree… The thing with Fogarty is you could make an argument he suits Seibold more than DCE.”
Fogarty, known for his long kicking game and tactical patience, may not possess Cherry-Evans' flamboyance, but he brings consistency and clarity—traits Seibold appears to value in his system.
While Fogarty has pledged his full commitment to the Raiders for the rest of 2025, there’s no doubt all eyes will be on how his next chapter unfolds on the Northern Beaches.
