'He'll prosper': Warriors land Englishman for 2026 and beyond image

The Warriors have bolstered their backrow stocks for 2026 and beyond with the signing of Englishman Morgan Gannon on a three-year deal.

Gannon will finish up with Leeds Rhinos as the end of the 2025 season before joining the Auckland-based outfit.

Still just 21, Gannon already has 60 first-grade appearances for Leeds to his name and will come to the NRL with his best football ahead of him.

“We’ve been watching Morgan and we’re excited about what he has to offer our club,” Warriors coach Andrew Webster said.

“He has a strong work ethic, runs hard lines, has ball playing ability and defends well.

“He’ll complement our back row forwards... he'll prosper in our environment and in the NRL.”

The Warriors' current back-row cohort includes Kurt Capewell, Marat Niukore, Leka Halasima, Demetric Vaimauga, Jackson Ford and Jacob Laban, all of whom are contracted for at least 2026, ensuring competition for spots will be hot.

Gannon's father, Jim, is Australian and played two seasons for Balmain before moving to England and enjoying a long career across several clubs.

“This is a great opportunity for me and one I had to take,” Gannon said.

“I have spent time in Australia with my dad’s family and I know how big the game is over there.

“I would like to thank the Rhinos for everything they have done to support me and the offer they made to me but this move is nothing to do with money, it is something I want to challenge myself with.”

Leeds, now coached by Brad Arthur, currently sit in sixth with a 5-4 record.
