The Women's State of Origin is back for 2025, with current holders Queensland Maroons and NSW Blues set to reignite the inter-state rivalry in Game 1 at the Suncorp Stadium.

The first of the three-match series will open with a Thursday night showdown in Brisbane, on the eve of the annual NRL Magic Round. After a blockbuster event last year, the shield is set to continue with the same format.

Queensland will be out to defend the shield, led by veteran halfback Ali Brigginshaw, who pairs alongside Golden Boot winner Tarryn Aiken in the halves.

The Maroons have named two debutants in their lineup - with Rory Owen (centre) and Jasmine Peters (winger), while Jada Ferguson and Tavarna Papalii are the rookies listed on the bench.

Meanwhile, the NSW Blues, captained by Isabelle Kelly, also have a couple of new faces in their squad. Abbi Church and Jayme Fressard have been named as debutants in the starting lineup.

The Blues won the series opener 22-12 at Brisbane last year, but the Maroons made a remarkable comeback to secure the series in the next two games. Queensland went on to beat NSW at home in Newcastle (11-10) and then in Townsville (22-6).

Since the series was rebranded as the 'State of Origin' in 2018, Queensland have won four (2020, 2021, 2023, 24) while NSW have won three (2018, 2019, 2022). However, the Maroons have emerged as the winners in the last two series, with the Blues last winning the shield in 2022.
