Cruz Hewitt, the son of former world No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt, is making his way up the tennis ranks.

The 16-year-old featured as part of the boys' singles draw at the past Australian Open and is looking to return to Melbourne Park in 2025.

The Sporting News has the latest updates regarding his participation at the grand slam tournament.

Will Cruz Hewitt play Australian Open 2025?

Hewitt has secured a wildcard into the Australian Open 2025 qualifying tournament.

He will enter the qualifying tournament, which begins on Monday, January 6, and need to win three consecutive matches to reach the men's singles draw - with 16 spots available.

Hewitt is set to play an ITF junior event in Traralgon in early January before also entering the Australian Open boys' singles draw.

If Hewitt is able to snag that wildcard, it would be a significant milestone in his young career.

The teenager currently plays on the International Tennis Federation (ITF) junior circuit and finished 2024 with a 30-10 record.

In the past season, he won two ITF junior titles.

This saw him nominated for the male junior player of the year award at the Australian Tennis Awards, which ultimately went to promising young gun Hayden Jones.

In Hewitt's last appearance at Melbourne Park, he lost in straight sets to No. 6 seed Alexander Razeghi in the first round of the boys' singles draw.

He reached a career-high No.99 in October 2024.
