Eddie Hearn has some interesting plans for his Australian star Jai Opetaia. The Ring and Magazine and IBF cruiserweight world champion is currently set to go up against Germany’s Huseyin Cinkara on the Gold Coast on Wednesday, January 8.
Following a clash against Chinkara, Opetaia will most likely lock horns against Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez to become an undisputed champion. Interestingly, it looks like the Australian star has plans to become an undisputed champion at cruiserweight and then move up to the heavyweight division.
During a recent interaction with The Sporting News, Opetaia’s promoter, Hearn had this to say:
“I look at Australian boxinh and I think the potential is just unbelievable right? Opetaia is a guy who beat Briedis with two broken jaws, not one. He should have been a national hero right now…you know we have this fight, we want to unify against Ramirez. That could land in Saudi Arabia. But you know, Jai is a phenomenal fighter”
He added:
“He’s a scary dude and he can fight. It’s only a matter of time before you see him move up to heavyweight.”
