Ruben Amorim has been confirmed as the new Manchester United head coach.

The Portuguese tactician was highlighted as the Red Devils' No.1 target after their decision to sack Erik ten Hag on October 28.

However his current club Sporting CP stood firm in their negotiations with the Premier League giants and a statement issued by United on November 1 said Amorim would "fulfil his obligations to his current club".

United have paid €11 million (£9.25m/$12m) to secure Amorim's release from Sporting, along with an additional €1.66m (£1.4m/$1.8m) in "intermediation commissions" related to the 39-year-old not having to work his full reported 30-day notice period.

Ruben Amorim's Man United contract

Amorim has signed a contract at Old Trafford running until June 2027, with the club holding an option to extend for a further 12 months.

When is Ruben Amorim's first Man Utd game?

Under the terms of United's agreement with Sporting, Amorim will take over as first-team boss on Monday, November 11.

That means his first game at the helm will be the Premier League trip to Ipswich Town on Sunday, November 24 after the forthcoming international break.

Ipswich are led by former United assistant Kieran McKenna who was himself linked with a return to Old Trafford over the summer before Ten Hag was handed an ill-fated contract extension.

Amorim will take charge of three remaining matches at Sporting, including an eye-catching UEFA Champions League clash with United's bitter rivals Manchester City on November 5 and a league trip to his former club Sporting Braga on November 10.

How many games is Ruud van Nistelrooy in charge for?

After securing an impressive 5-2 EFL Cup win over Leicester City in his first game as interim boss, Ruud van Nistelrooy will lead United at home to Chelsea this weekend.

United then host PAOK Salonika in the UEFA Europa League on November 7 before taking on Leicester again at home in league action three days later.

That will be Van Nistelrooy's final game in charge before handing over the reins to Amorim the following day.
