The 49ers' running back room cannot avoid the injury bug.

San Francisco interim starter Jordan Mason was removed from its "Thursday Night Football" matchup with the Seahawks due to a shoulder injury.

Mason has been a monster in star running back Christian McCaffrey's place, entering Week 6 as the second-leading rusher in the NFL with 536 yards.

Jordan Mason shoulder injury update

49ers running back Mason is "questionable" to return against the Seahawks on "Thursday Night Football" with a shoulder injury. He was seen on the sidelines with his helmet on before the end of the first half — a good sign for his potential availability.

He was removed from the game following a run during the second quarter. Mason picked up a gain of 14 yards before Seattle safety Julian Love landed on top of him and the football. Mason stayed down for a brief moment before walking off the field and into the locker room for X-rays.

Mason already had eight carries for 65 yards in less than two quarters of work.

UPDATE: Mason returned for the first play of the second half, a nine-yard run. However, he left after that and was seen on the sideline working out his shoulder and talking to trainers. Isaac Guerendo and Patrick Taylor Jr. finished the drive in the backfield.

49ers RB depth chart

RolePlayer
RB1Christian McCaffrey (Inj.)
RB2Jordan Mason
RB3Isaac Guerendo
RB4Patrick Taylor Jr.

McCaffrey (Achilles) has not played yet this season and Mason is dealing with a shoulder injury.

Guerendo is next up on the 49ers' depth chart with Taylor right behind him. Don't be surprised if WR Deebo Samuel and fullback Kyle Juszczyk also take some carries if Mason can't return.

Isaac Guerendo

Once Mason went down, Guerendo handled all four carries for the 49ers' backfield. He only picked up six yards.

Guerendo is a rookie fourth-round pick out of Wisconsin. He had 12 carries for 41 yards going into this contest.

Patrick Taylor Jr.

Taylor is a four-year veteran who went undrafted out of Memphis. He spent the first three years of his career with the Packers, tallying 65 carries for 261 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown.

He did not have any touches for the 49ers this season going into "Thursday Night Football."
