Davante Adams contract, explained: How Raiders star would fit under Jets, Chiefs, other salary caps in a trade image

Davante Adams may have played his final game as a Raider.

The star wide receiver is in trade rumors, as Las Vegas is reportedly shopping the 31-year-old just two after acquiring him from Green Bay. Despite his age, Adams is still a top wide receiver in the NFL and should garner plenty of interest.

It's no easy feat to make any deal in the NFL work, let alone one involving one of the highest-paid wide receivers. Adams got a deal from Las Vegas when he was traded to the team in 2022, and is now paid to be one of the top players at his position.

So who can realistically trade for Adams given his contract? The Sporting News explains the wide receiver's cap hit, no-trade clause and which clubs have the money to bring in the talented receiver.

Davante Adams contract details

Adams signed a five-year, $140 million contract with the Raiders in 2022, carrying an average annual value of $28.25 million. His deal included $65.7 million in fully guaranteed money.

For the season, he carries a cap hit of $25.35 million, however, that number would be at $13.5 million if he were traded during Week 5.

At the time, Adams accomplished his goal of becoming the highest-paid wide receiver in the league. His total value of $140 million remains tied for the most with Vikings WR Justin Jefferson. However, he has since been passed by numerous stars in AAV, such as Jefferson, Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb, Lions WR Amon-Ra St. Brown, Eagles WR A.J. Brown, 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk, and the Dolphins duo of Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.

Does Davante Adams have a no-trade clause?

No, Adams does not have a no-trade clause in his contract. The Raiders have the ability to trade him to any team.

There is not a no-trade clause that kicks in at any point on the two years remaining on the deal.

Davante Adams salary cap fits

As mentioned, Adams' contract at this point in the season would carry a cap hit of $13.5 million. So who could fit that contract in under their salary? Here's a look at the best fits for Adams and how they could financially make it happen.

Jets

Could a reunion between Adams and Aaron Rodgers happen on the Jets? It's certainly possible. The two longtime Packers teammates split ways when Adams was traded to the Raiders in 2022, but they could get the band back together in New York. The Jets are working with over $16 million in cap space, so they have the finances and the draft capital to make it happen.

Steelers

The Steelers were in the Brandon Aiyuk sweepstakes until the very end when the wide receiver stayed up with the 49ers. Could Pittsburgh land another WR option to pair alongside George Pickens now in Adams? With about $10 million left in cap space, some money would have to be moved around for Pittsburgh to make it work. However, for a team off to as strong of a start as the Steelers, they may need to go all-in to get WR help.

Chiefs

The injuries have been piling up on the Chiefs offense, but that hasn't stopped the team from going 4-0 to start the season. However, with the latest injury to Rashee Rice, Patrick Mahomes is now without a bonafide WR1 in Kansas City, making the defending Super Bowl champions an intriguing option for Adams. With that said, Kansas City has just under $5 million in cap, so the Raiders wide receiver is likely too expensive. Plus, would Las Vegas really help out a fellow AFC West rival?

Packers

Instead of a reunion with Rodgers in New York, what if Adams reunited with Matt LaFleur in Green Bay? The two spent time together with the Packers, and the wide receiver is an avid fan of QB Jordan Love. The Packers have young studs on offense in Jayden Reed, Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs, but adding a veteran like Adams could help Green Bay in a highly competitive NFC North. With over $14 million in cap space, the money could work for the Pack.

Davante Adams stats

Adams missed the Week 4 contest with a hamstring injury and is considered to be week-to-week. Still, when healthy, he is Las Vegas' top option at wide receiver.

So far through the 2024 season, the Pro Bowler has 18 catches on 27 targets for 209 yards and a receiving touchdown. However, half of that production came during the team's Week 2 win over the Ravens.
