Brendan Loughnane - PFL
(PFL MMA)

The Professional Fighters League heads to South Dakota for the first time as the regular season’s first round comes to an end. Featherweights and welterweights are in action, with the main event being Brendan Loughnane vs. Justin Gonzales.

Loughnane (28-6) was the 2022 PFL Featherweight Tournament winner. The Brit missed out on a UFC contract following a run on Dana White's Contender Series and has gone 10-2 with the PFL ever since. He lost his shot at repeating in 2023, thanks to Jesus Pinedo, but started 2024 with a bang by beating Pedro Carvalho in April via TKO.

Gonzales (14-4) is on a three-fight losing streak. The former Bellator competitor lost against Gabriel Braga to start his PFL career. “J-Train” has four wins via knockout and one via submission.

The 34-year-old Loughnane is considered the favorite, but anything can happen heading into the playoffs, as a win is not guaranteed. Loughnane looks to make sure there are no mistakes as he prepares for another shot at gold and $1 million.

“I was in this same position last year and ended up getting knocked out,” Loughnane told MMA Junkie. “I took my eye off the ball before I was already in the semis, so I’ll be making sure to not make that mistake again. I really, really learned from that experience, and I’ve definitely not took my foot off the pedal of the gas or my eye off the ball, so I’ve been looking forward to getting in there.”
