There's no questioning the playoff credentials of the Warriors in the Steve Kerr era. Golden State has four championships under its belt with Kerr and Stephen Curry, the most recent coming in 2022.
The Play-In Tournament has proven to be an entirely different experience for the Warriors.
After struggles in 2021 and 2024 kept Golden State out of the playoffs entirely, the Warriors are hoping 2025 brings better luck. The franchise is positioned well as the No. 7 seed, needing to win just one of two possible home games to reach the playoffs, but the demons of Play-In Tournaments of the past could haunt Curry and company.

Warriors record in NBA Play-In Tournament
The Warriors are 0-3 in the Play-In Tournament, which started in 2020 and moved to its current format in 2021.
Year | Matchup | Result |
2021 | at Lakers | L, 103-100 |
2021 | vs. Grizzlies | L, 117-112 (OT) |
2024 | at Kings | L, 118-94 |
2021
Golden State entered the 2021 Play-In Tournament as the No. 8 seed in the West and narrowly lost to the Lakers in the 7/8 game, setting the stage for a showdown with the Grizzlies that also did not go the franchise's way.
The Warriors suffered an overtime home loss to Memphis in a win-or-go-home game, missing the playoffs for the second consecutive season.
Golden State was looking to prove an ugly 2019-20 season, which saw Stephen Curry miss an extended period with a hand injury, was just an aberration. While the Warriors did play much better, they lost Klay Thompson to another season-ending injury before the campaign and looked nothing like the championship contender they were in the late 2010s.
The Lakers and Grizzlies would both go on to lose their opening round playoff series.

2024
The Warriors were a quick exit in the 2024 Play-In Tournament, going out with a thud as the No. 10 seed. A disastrous second half paved the way for a 24-point Kings win in Sacramento, sending Golden State spiraling out of playoff contention just two years after winning the NBA Finals.
The Kings would lose their win-or-go-home game to the Pelicans and miss the playoffs as well.
