Biggest blowouts in MLB history: Reds flirt with record in 24-2 win over Orioles image

Looking for a series victory, the Reds offense exploded against the Orioles on Sunday en route to a 24-2 victory in Baltimore.

The performance marks the biggest blowout in the majors so far this year and the second time a team scored 20 runs in a game so far, surpassing the Yankees' 20-run outburst in the second game of the season.

At one point this year, the Reds went three straight games without scoring a run, as Cincinnati's offense went through a serious dry spell. During this game, however, the Reds kept pouring it on, producing half of its runs in the final three innings and potentially competing for the biggest blowout in recent MLB history.

The Reds dominant victory on Sunday was highlighted by a seven-run third inning, in which Cincinnati chased Baltimore starter Charlie Morton from the game after just 2.1 innings. In that inning, Elly De La Cruz homered and T.J. Friedl produced an RBI triple, but the Reds got the job done with walks and singles around them.

In fact, the Reds only had five extra-base hits in the game, producing 20 singles and 11 walks on the day. Besides De La Cruz's homer, Noelvi Marte hit a grand slam in the eighth to extend the lead to 19, while Austin Wynns capped off a 6-for-7 day with a three-run homer in the ninth inning to finish the scoring.

Wynns and Marte combined for 11 of the Reds' 25 hits, producing 13 RBIs and five runs from the 8-9 spots in the order alone. Every player who started for Cincinnati had at least one hit, one run, and one RBI. Only Santiago Espinal, who entered the game for De La Cruz late, didn't contribute to the scoring.

Cincinnati scored 24 runs on 25 hits, 11 walks, and one Orioles error. Baltimore used five pitchers, two of whom were position players, and they all allowed at least three runs in the game.
