Is Anthony Davis playing tonight? Latest heel injury update on Lakers star for game vs. Grizzlies image

The Lakers have sputtered after a roaring start to the season. As L.A. looks to get back on track, it will lean on a hobbled superstar.

Anthony Davis is averaging 32.6 points and 11.6 rebounds through seven games, but he recently revealed he is less than 100 percent. After a disappointing loss in Detroit, Davis was adamant that he would not miss any time despite questions directed to his teammates.

Will Davis miss time with his injury? Here is the latest on his status for the Lakers' trip to visit the Grizzlies on Wednesday.

Is Anthony Davis playing tonight?

Davis won't play against the Grizzlies on Wednesday, head coach JJ Redick announced.

Davis was listed as "questionable" with a left heel contusion. The Lakers and Grizzlies will tip off shortly after 8 p.m. ET Wednesday.

After the Lakers loss to the Pistons Monday, a dejected Davis said he had "been managing [the injury] since the summer," adding that he "landed on the spot that's been killing me."

Davis' injury was initially believed to be an ankle issue but further evaluation determined it was a bruise in his heel. He aggravated the injury on consecutive plays.

First, Davis landed on another player's foot while attempting to block a shot. On the ensuing possession, Davis landed awkwardly after getting fouled on a layup attempt.

After going 3-0 on a homestand to start the season, the Lakers have lost three of their first four games on a five-game trip. After facing Memphis, LA will return home for another three-game homestand.
