Celtics' Kristaps Porzingis has head cut open, bleeding after injury-causing elbow from Magic center image

Kristaps Porzingis picked up a brutal-looking injury on Wednesday night.

The Celtics center caught a stray elbow from Magic center Goga Bitazde and went to the ground.

Almost immediately, Porzingis had blood pooling out of his head.

Bitazde's elbow had caught Porzingis in the forehead area and opened a big cut.

Porzingis eventually got up with trainers, put a towel over his head and headed to the locker room. The TNT broadcast crew speculated that Porzingis would need stitches.

The foul was called a Flagrant Foul Penalty 1.

At the time of the injury, Boston led 77-66 with 55 seconds left in the third quarter.

The Celtics were already playing without Jayson Tatum, who missed the game with his wrist injury.

The 7-foot-3 Latvian quickly came back to the bench area with an X-shaped bandage on his head.

Porzingis didn't stay in the locker room long. He came back in and shot his foul shots as the Boston faithful chanted "K-P, K-P" and Porzingis wore a big smile on his face.

After that, he retreated to the locker room again to get things cleaned up fully. He had to shoot the free throws to ensure he could return to the game at a later point in time.

When Porzingis exited, he had 20 points, eight rebounds, two steals and two blocks in 27 minutes.
