Commanders vs. Eagles final score, results: Saquon Barkley, Philadelphia defense dominates in sixth straight win image

It wasn't all pretty, but the Eagles won their sixth straight game to open Week 11 of the 2024 NFL season.

The NFC East's top two teams squared off on "Thursday Night Football," with the Eagles (8-2) pulling away from the Commanders (7-4) late for a 26-18 victory. Behind a strong defensive performance (three sacks, one interception) and two late touchdown runs from Saquon Barkley (26-146, two TDs), the Eagles claimed a firm grip on the division and remained one of the hottest teams in the league.

However, the first half featured slow starts for both sides. Washington took a 7-3 lead into the break after a Brian Robinson (16-63, TD) touchdown, and on the other side of things, the Eagles didn't look like themselves offensively. Barkley wasn't finding many lanes to run, Jalen Hurts (18-of-28, 221 passing yards, 39 rushing yards, TD) wasn't hitting his open receivers, and kicker Jake Elliott, usually reliable, missed two field goals.

Even in the third quarter, neither team showed much interest in pulling away. Jayden Daniels (22-of-32, 191 passing yards, TD, INT, 18 rushing yards) couldn't string together completions for long drives, and after trading field goals, the Commanders entered the fourth frame up 10-6.

Philadelphia dominated the final 15 minutes, though. A tush-push score from Hurts and two huge touchdown runs from Barkley blew the game open, and on top of that, a failed fourth-down conversion for Washington and an interception by safety Reed Blankenship sealed the result. While tight end Zach Ertz (6-47, TD) gave his former Eagles fanbase something to boo about with a late touchdown and two-point conversion, it was far too late for a Commanders comeback.

As the Cowboys' season has plummeted lately, Washington and Philadelphia are set up for a two-way race in the NFC East this season, and Thursday's result could prove crucial for the Eagles' chances at winning that race. Nick Sirianni's squad is on fire, and with its "Thursday Night Football" win, Philadelphia is inching closer to locking up an NFC playoff spot.

Meanwhile, Washington's struggles against top-tier teams (losses to Tampa Bay, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, and Philadelphia) continued. Daniels and the Commanders' offense struggled to sustain their promising drives on Thursday, and defensively, Washington collapsed in the final quarter. Dan Quinn's group will be searching for a bounce-back victory against the Cowboys in Week 12.

Who won Thursday Night Football?

(All times ET)

11:18 p.m. — Philadelphia recovers the onside kick attempt, and Hurts takes a knee to end this one. The Eagles used a strong second half, especially from Barkley, to pull away as they win their sixth straight game and take full command of the NFC East.

Eagles 26, Commanders 18

11:12 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Washington gets a late score as Zach Ertz, a longtime Eagle, makes a five-yard reception in the end zone. It's Ertz once again scoring on the two-point conversion with an incredible toe tap catch, but the Commanders still trail by eight with just 28 seconds remaining.

11:05 p.m. — A roughing the passer call on Philadelphia pushes the Commanders into Eagles territory, but it's likely too late for them to get back in this game.

Eagles 26, Commanders 10

10:58 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Saquon Barkley puts any last hopes for the Commanders to rest, dashing for a 39-yard score on the ground. All of a sudden, he's put together an outstanding game: 146 rushing yards, 52 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

10:55 p.m. — Jayden Daniels throws just his third interception of the season, giving Philadelphia an easy path to victory. It's Reed Blankenship with the pick, and the Eagles own all of the momentum at home.

Eagles 19, Commanders 10

10:50 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Barkley breaks free for a 23-yard score, extending the Eagles' lead. Washington's decision to go for the fourth down comes back to hurt it, as the Commanders now face a nine-point deficit after Elliott makes the extra point this time around.

10:48 p.m. — Dallas Goedert, wide open, picks up 31 yards but fumbles the ball as he's being tackled. Luckily for Philadelphia, another tight end, Grant Calcaterra, jumps on it to maintain possession.

10:45 p.m. — An interesting decision by Washington to go for it doesn't pay off, a potentially huge choice. On 4th & 2, Baun slams into Jayden Daniels to keep him short of the first down line. Philadelphia takes over with a two-point lead.

10:42 p.m. — Philadelphia stuffs Brian Robinson on a 3rd & 1, but the Commanders will go for it on fourth down.

10:39 p.m. — Terry McLaurin finally makes his first grab of the game for 10 yards. Daniels has found a rhythm, completing four passes already on this drive to put Washington in the red zone.

Eagles 12, Commanders 10

10:34 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — Barkley got down to the one-yard line, and the Eagles punch it in with a tush push from Jalen Hurts. It took until the fourth quarter, but Philadelphia has its first touchdown. However, Elliott's struggles continue, as he misses a huge extra point that leaves it at just a two-point game.

10:32 p.m. — Kenneth Gainwell picks up 27 yards over two plays on the ground, and the Eagles are deep into the red zone.

10:30 p.m. — Hurts makes a strong effort to barely reach for a first down, preventing Philadelphia from having to make a fourth-down call of whether or not to go for it.

End of third quarter: Commanders 10, Eagles 6

10:27 p.m. — The third frame comes to an end with a face mask flag against Washington being picked up.

10:24 p.m. — Hurts finds A.J. Brown for 17 yards, the receiver's fourth catch of the game.

10:20 p.m. — The Eagles' pass rush gets to Daniels for the third time tonight. This time, it's Nolan Smith taking him down on third down, forcing a punt from the Commanders.

10:18 p.m. — Washington's quick touchdown drive in the first half has been the difference.

Commanders 10, Eagles 6

10:13 p.m.  FIELD GOAL — Again, the Commanders successfully keep the Eagles out of the end zone. Hurts can't connect with Brown on a third down, so Elliott nails a 31-yard field goal instead.

10:11 p.m. — We've been overdue for a big Saquon Barkley play, and it's finally come. The running back goes for 43 yards after a reception from Hurts, pushing Philadelphia into Washington territory.

10:07 p.m. — Hurts, back on the field, picks up seven yards with a run to open Philadelphia's drive.

Commanders 10, Eagles 3

10:03 p.m. FIELD GOAL — Zane Gonzalez, filling in as Washington's starting kicker, connects on a 45-yard field goal to make it a seven-point Commanders lead.

10:01 p.m. — Milton Williams and Graham take Daniels down for a sack, then the quarterback's pass to Terry McLaurin on third down is incomplete.

10:00 p.m. — An Eagles penalty kept the Commanders' drive alive, and Ekeler then takes the ball inside Philadelphia's 30-yard line with a 20-yard catch.

9:56 p.m. — Good news for the Eagles' offense, when it takes the field again: Hurts will return.

9:55 p.m. — Washington begins the second half with the ball.

9:44 p.m. — The halftime quarterback numbers: Hurts is 10-for-19 with 101 passing yards and no touchdowns or interceptions. Meanwhile, Daniels is 8-for-13 with 83 passing yards and also without a touchdown or interception.

Halftime: Commanders 7, Eagles 3

9:41 p.m. — Washington ran a few plays in an attempt to get in field-goal range, but the first half comes to a close. It's been a low-scoring game, and there's a significant storyline brewing for the second half: Jalen Hurts went into the medical tent before the break.

Commanders 7, Eagles 3

9:35 p.m. FIELD GOAL — Philadelphia is kept out of the end zone, settling for a short field goal from Elliott before halftime. An 87-yard drive ends in just three points.

9:32 p.m. — The Eagles have 1st & Goal with 39 seconds left before the break, looking to tie it up at seven.

9:28 p.m. — Devonta Smith breaks free for a 21-yard gain up the middle of the field.

9:24 p.m. — At the two-minute warning, Philadelphia is moving the ball the best it has all night. Brown and Smith both make receptions, and Barkley has picked up 25 yards on this series alone.

9:19 p.m. — Ekeler drops a wide-open pass on 3rd & 9, ending Washington's good-looking drive. Make it seven punts between these two teams in the first half.

9:16 p.m. — The Commanders are moving the ball well, as Zach Ertz's 10-yard catch is the third time Washington's moved the chains on this drive. The first-half clock is slowly ticking down with the Commanders around midfield.

9:10 p.m. — Another drive, another punt. Hurts' pass, intended for Brown, falls incomplete on 3rd & 4. There's been some dysfunction in the Eagles' offense so far.

9:05 p.m. — Make it back-to-back sacks for the Eagles. As soon as Washington gets the ball back, Daniels is taken down by Brandon Graham and Josh Sweat on consecutive plays, then forcing the Commanders to punt. With just under 10 minutes left in the second quarter, there's been five punts in this matchup.

9:03 p.m. — Elliott's kicking struggles continue. Philadelphia at least gets in field goal range, but its kicker misses his second field goal of the evening, this time from 51 yards. Elliott is now 0-for-4 on field goals from at least 50 yards out this season.

8:59 p.m. — Luvu once again takes down Hurts, this time for a huge 13-yard loss while Philadelphia attempted some offensive trickery. The Eagles did move the chains once on this drive, but they're set up for a difficult task in a 2nd & 23.

End of first quarter: Commanders 7, Eagles 0

8:54 p.m. — With the Commanders pinned inside their own 10-yard line, Philadelphia's defense puts the clamps on, forcing a three-and-out. As the first quarter comes to a close, Barkley picks up seven yards on the ground for the Eagles' offense.

8:49 p.m. — Another Eagles drive ends without points, as Dotson drops a potential first-down reception from Hurts on third down. Washington will get the ball back.

Commanders 7, Eagles 0

8:42 p.m. TOUCHDOWN — It's just a four-play scoring drive for Washington. Ekeler's big play set up the offense nicely, then Robinson does most of the rest, running for 18 yards then punching the ball into the end zone. The Commanders take the first lead of the game.

8:40 p.m. — Ekeler breaks through with the biggest play of the game so far, catching a pass from Daniels then running down the left sideline through contact for 34 yards.

8:37 p.m. — Frankie Luvu gets to Hurts on third down, Washington's first sack of the game. Philadelphia punts as we remain scoreless in the first quarter.

8:35 p.m. — We have our first tush push of the game, as the Eagles convert a 3rd & 1 by shoving Jalen Hurts for two yards.

8:30 p.m. — Philadelphia's defense makes a statement with its opening plays. On second down, the Eagles hold Brian Robinson to just one yard on the ground, then Zack Baun deflects a pass from Daniels on third down. Washington goes three-and-out on its first drive.

8:29 p.m. — Washington's first offensive play is a five-yard completion from Daniels to Austin Ekeler.

8:26 p.m. — Philadelphia's drive stalled out after a holding penalty set up a 3rd & 22. Jake Elliott attempts a 44-yard field goal, but it's no good. The Eagles come away scoreless on their first series.

8:23 p.m. — The first big Hurts-Brown connection of the game goes for 25 yards:

8:21 p.m. — Philadelphia converts on a pair of third downs. The first comes on a short run from Barkley, and the next comes on A.J. Brown's first catch of the evening.

8:16 p.m. — The first play of the game is an eight-yard completion from Hurts to Jahan Dotson, the former Commanders WR.

8:14 p.m. — The Commanders won the toss, and they defer. Philadelphia's offense will take the field first.

8:10 p.m. — The 7-3 Commanders against the 7-2 Eagles, with the winner taking over in the NFC East. Jayden Daniels vs. Jalen Hurts for the first time. Let's do it.

7:55 p.m. — Almost game time in Philly.

7:44 p.m. — A heartfelt moment from Saquon Barkley pregame:

6:54 p.m. — Jahan Dotson, traded from Washington to Philadelphia before the current season began, will face his former Commanders team for the first time tonight.

6:51 p.m. — And a look at the Commanders' inactives. Starting kicker Austin Seibert and recently-acquired corner Marshon Lattimore officially won't play against the Eagles.

6:49 p.m. — Here's a look at the Eagles' inactives list for tonight's matchup:
