Real Madrid could still face a UEFA investigation despite their dramatic Champions League exit at the hands of Arsenal.

Los Blancos needed a second-leg miracle against the Gunners - after losing 3-0 in North London in their first clash with Mikel Arteta's side - but it was thee visitors who seized the chance for history in the Spanish capital.

Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli's second-half goals sealed successive victories for Arteta's charges who now move on to a semifinal showdown with PSG.

Carlo Ancelotti's position in Madrid is under major pressure, after failing to defend his European crown, despite their ongoing La Liga and Copa del Rey double charge.

European success is so often the benchmark of success at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu and the frustration was clear from everyone connected with Ancelotti's squad.

As the home fans grew tetchy in the stands, tension ramped up on the sidelines, culminating in a touchline row between Saka and injured Real Madrid star Dani Carvajal.

What happened between Saka and Carvajal?

Saka was a key figure all night for Arsenal but it was a game of contrasts for the England international.

The 23-year-old attempted an ill-advised Panenka penalty in the opening stages, which was easily saved by Thibaut Courtois, before making amends with a clever opener for the visitors on 65 minutes.

However, Arsenal's No.7 was involved in a heated exchange with Carvajal, as he walked down the Bernabeu tunnel at half-time.

Carvajal was sat behind the Real Madrid bench - as his recovery from an ACL injury continues - and he took issue with Saka's bold penalty attempt.

Numerous Spanish outlets have indicated Carvajal took issue with Saka, and after what appeared to initially be a sporting handshake, the Spain captain grabbed Saka, as Real Madrid staff quickly piled in to separate the pair.

Ben White dashed in to back up Saka, with Carvajal angered by what he viewed as 'disrespect' from Saka, in the latest flashpoint between the pair.

Carvajal infamously gave Saka the 'cry baby eyes' during Spain's UEFA Euro 2024 final win over England last summer after fouling the winger.

As per reports from Mundo Deportivo, despite not being a part of Real Madrid's playing squad, Carvajal's antics will be looked into by UEFA on the back of referee Francois Letexier's post-match report.

The 33-year-old could be sanctioned by UEFA based on their rules over player conduct with Diario AS indicating he could be banned for up to four games starting next season.

Article 11 of UEFA's Disciplinary Code, states: "Players must respect the laws of the game and adhere to the principles of ethical conduct, loyalty, integrity and sportsmanship."
