Former South African international and Pakistan head coach for the white ball team, Gary Kirsten is reportedly set to leave the job with an immediate effect as the team is set to travel to Australia and Zimbabwe in November and December.

Kirsten took up the reigns of Pakistan's white-ball team in May 2024 after Grant Bradburn parted ways with the side after the ICC Cricket World Cup and Mohammad Hafeez took charge for a few months.

Why Gary Kirsten wants to quit from head coach role of Pakistan cricket team?

According to Cricbuzz, the World Cup winning coach from South Africa will not be travelling with the Pakistan national team to Australia for their 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is series, starting from November 4.

Reportedly, there have been differences between the coach and the players alongwith the PCB after the South African wanted David Reid to join his staff as a high-performance coach. However, the PCB rejected his choice and suggested other options, which did not sit well with Kirsten.

As of now, there is no official announcement from either party, but it is highly likely that the 56-year-old will not be at the helm with Pakistan by the time of the ICC Champions Trophy at home. Aaqib Javed and the red-ball coach, Jason Gillespie currently emerge as the best positioned options to take up the job immediately.

In his time as the coach of Pakistan, they started off with a 2-0 T20I series defeat against England before getting knocked out of the group stage in the T20 World Cup after getting defeated by the USA and India.
