Shubman Gill, who was playing like a dream, suddenly found himself walking back to the pavilion after a runout. However, there appeared to be a controversy about the dismissal, which sparked discussion among fans and in the GT dugout.

The incident took place in the 13th over. While at first it looked fine, the replays suggested that the decision wasn't straightforward, which is when it became messy. It turned into a long review and when the decision came, it left even Gill shocked.

He didn’t stay quiet either. What followed was a tense moment near the boundary where he seemed to question the match official.

Shubman Gill runout controversy: What happened?

It was the last ball of the 13th over. Jos Buttler nudged the ball for a quick run. Harshal Patel picked up fast and threw it to the keeper’s end. Klaasen, the wicketkeeper, reached for the stumps with a flick.

The replays clearly showed Gill was short of the crease. But the issue was not if he was in or out. It was about how the stumps were broken.

Fans and players wanted to know- did the ball hit the stumps or did Klaasen’s gloves knock the bails off?

Shubman Gill runout controversy: Did the ball touch the stumps or not?

Third umpire Michael Gough had a tough job. The footage was played again and again from different angles. In one frame, it looked like Klaasen flicked the ball. In another, it seemed like maybe the gloves made contact with the stumps before the ball did.

That’s where the confusion came in. If the gloves touched the stumps without the ball, then Gill should not have been out. But after watching the footage several times, Gough gave it out.

At first, Gill looked calm. He watched the screen as the umpire reviewed the footage. But once the decision came, he looked upset. When he walked off the field, he went straight to the official near the ropes and seemed to have a serious chat.

He was in top form. He smashed 76 runs off just 38 balls. His shots were clean and classy. He looked set for a big score and was set for yet another century in Ahmedabad.
