The much anticipated Border Gavaskar Trophy gets underway on November 22 as Australia hosts India down under for a five-match Test series.
The Test series, starting from Perth will move to Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney will the first week of January 2025.

What is a Border Gavaskar Trophy?
The Border-Gavaskar trophy is the Test series between the two powerhouses of modern-day cricket, India and Australia which began in 1996/87 when India hosted Australia for the only Test which was played in Delhi.
This was not the first instance that the teams faced each other. The first Test between the two sides dates back to the pre-independence time in 1935-36.
The series was officially named after legendary cricketers Alan Border and Sunil Gavaskar from the series in 1996/97.

Since the above-mentioned edition, the two nations have hosted the Trophy in alternate editions in roughly 1.5 years between each other and over the years we have seen some incredible contests, from the famous win for India in Eden Gardens in 2001 to Gabba 2021 and the famous 4-0 whitewash for the Aussies, down under.
The only time since 1991/92 where the trophy was not on the line between the two teams was in 2023 when they met in the final of the World Test Championship's second edition at The Oval in England. Australia emerged victorious as they clinched the trophy for the first time in their history.

Ahead of the upcoming, 17th edition of the trophy, the current holders, India also happen to be the team with more series wins, i.e., 10 while holding onto the trophy for 8 long years.
Australia's last BGT series win came in 2014/15's fiercely competed edition where they won the series 2-0.
Who has scored the most runs in the BGT?
Ahead of the 2024/25 BGT, Sachin Tendulkar has scored the most runs in the contests since 1996 with 3262 runs in 65 innings at an average of 56.24 while for Australia, Ricky Ponting has 2555 runs in 51 innings at an average of 57.70.
Among active players, Cheteshwar Pujara has averaged 50.82 against the Aussies in 43 innings and scored 2033 runs for India and Steve Smith has 1887 runs in 35 innings, averaging 65.05.
Who has taken the most wickets in the BGT?
Australia's Nathan Lyon, in 47 innings against India is the all-time highest wicket-taker in the trophy with 116 to his name. His opposite number, Ravichandran Ashwin sits just 2 wickers behind the Australian off spinner on number 2 with 114 wickets in 5 less innings, i.e., 42 innings.
