Basit Ali, the former Pakistan cricketer, recently expressed his stance on India’s unwillingness to visit Pakistan for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.
In a direct appeal, he urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to push for automatic points if India opts not to travel. Ali’s statement comes amid a debate following the BCCI’s official communication to the ICC, citing security concerns as a reason for India’s reluctance to play in Pakistan.
The issue is gaining traction, with the PCB now escalating the matter to the Pakistani government, who, in turn, has reportedly expressed opposition to a hybrid hosting model.

Why does Basit Ali believe points should go to Pakistan?
Basit Ali, on his YouTube channel, advocates for a firm response, suggesting that Pakistan should refuse a hybrid format or neutral venue arrangement.
According to him, if India does not play in Pakistan, the ICC should grant Pakistan two points by default for the missed fixture, following the precedent set in the 1996 Cricket World Cup.
"Do you remember that in the 1996 World Cup Sri Lanka got 2-2 points after West Indies and Australia did not go? Try to put India and Pakistan in different pools, the ICC will refuse. Pakistan and India are always in the same pool because of money.
"If there is a hybrid model and India don't visit Pakistan, give Pakistan two points. It has happened before too, so try it now," said Basit.
What is the current status of the Champions Trophy schedule?
The 2025 ICC Champions Trophy is tentatively scheduled to run from February 19 to March 9, with Pakistan placed in Group A alongside India, Bangladesh, and New Zealand. However, the finalization of dates hinges on India's participation decision.

If a neutral venue is considered, the schedule may see adjustments, adding further complexity for the ICC as they aim to balance diplomatic sensitivities with tournament logistics.
