Following his illustrious playing career, Wayne Rooney started his managerial career with Derby County in 2020. Since then, he has been in charge of three other clubs, including D.C. United, Birmingham City, and Plymouth Argyle.
Rooney has been on the receiving end of criticism for his managerial career so far, as the Man United legend is yet to lead a club to a trophy, or anywhere, really.
Rooney's last managerial stint was at Plymouth Argyle, where he was appointed on a three-year contract in May last year. However, his tenure was cut short as the 39-year-old parted ways in a mutual agreement with the EFL Championship club in December, with Plymouth rock bottom of the table.
Rooney has been out of management since leaving Plymouth, but now it appears the Englishman may be back in the dugouts of the EFL Championship soon.
What is Wayne Rooney's next destination as manager?
While things did not work out at Plymouth Argyle, Rooney might soon have another chance to prove his capabilities as a manager. He has been identified as a managerial target for Blackburn Rovers, according to a report from talkSPORT.

Blackburn Rovers recently appointed Valerien Ismael in February after John Eustace resigned to join Derby County. However, things have been difficult for the French manager at the Rovers, who, under his management, have won only one out of eight games.
While Ismael is still in charge, the current state of the squad in the Championship has reportedly led to Blackburn Rovers considering Rooney as their next head coach.
Despite his unsuccessful managerial spells in the past, Rooney's ambitions as a coach still remain, as per talkSPORT. While many questioned his abilities as a manager, some have argued that the Englishman needs to make a better choice of club to establish himself.
