'Articles appear in poor taste' - Preity Zinta hits back at media for circulating fake news

Last week, an X user with the username @RofiedAyush posted a quote on his account, which instantly went viral.

"I will bet my life to get Rohit Sharma if he comes in mega auction. We are only missing a captain in our team who brings on some stability and champion mindset [Star sports]," the user posted, who claims to be a senior news editor according to his X bio.

These comments were instantly picked up by various Indian news outlets, creating a lot of buzz.

However, Preity Zinta has quashed all the rumours by issuing a strong statement on Friday, April 19, where she denied making any statements regarding Rohit.

#Fakenews ! All these articles are completely fake & baseless. I hold Rohit Sharma in very high regard & am a big fan of his, but I have NEVER DISCUSSED him in any interview nor made this STATEMENT ! I also have a lot of respect for Shikhar Dhawan & he being currently injured, makes these articles appear in very poor taste. These articles are a perfect example of how misinformation is picked up without any verification & circulated online. I humbly request all Media to refrain from circulating this & embarrassing all concerned parties 🙏 All I want to say is that we have a great team currently & our only focus is to win games & make the most out of #IPL2024 Thank you. @PunjabKingsIPL

It turns out that those quotes were not intended to spread misinformation, but was a parody tweet instead.

The user @RofiedAyush commented under Preity Zinta's statement by saying, "misunderstanding happens, you might not said it on camera but everyone knows your team always lacks a leader captain and champion mindset. That quote was a fact because its all in your heart that you want a strong Captain but you can't say it on camera in respect of dhawan."

What next for Punjab Kings?

PBKS find themselves in trouble after winning just two of their first seven games in IPL 2024, which has hamstrung their chances of making it to the playoffs.

Their next game is a must-win against Gujarat Titans at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Mohali, on Sunday, April 21.
