One of the unique features of this tournament has been the astronomically high scoring rates. 250 has been breached on multiple occasions, something that happened just once in 16 seasons before this one. One reason for this has been the helpful nature of pitches throughout the tournament.
But is the pitch at the Arun Jaitley Stadium/Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi the flattest of them all?
Is Delhi the flattest pitch in IPL 2024? Detailing how every team has scored 200 runs at Feroz Shah Kotla
Due to elections during the first part of the IPL, Delhi Capitals played their home matches at that stage in Visakhapatnam, where they beat the Chennai Super Kings and lost to the Kolkata Knight Riders, conceding 272 in the process.
Since their return to Delhi however, the runs have flowed consistently. The first innings at this ground saw Sunrisers Hyderabad score 266/7 batting first, including a record 125 runs in the first six overs. Travis Head scored 89 (32) and Abhishek Sharma notched up 46 (12) in that innings. Since then, the next five innings at the ground have all seen scores of 220 and above, apart from one as DC were bowled out for 199 in their near-impossible pursuit of 267.
In the past, the pitch at the Arun Jaitley Stadium/Feroz Shah Kotla has been conducive to spin, with the likes of Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav excelling for DC. However, this season the track has not taken much turn, and has more or less true bounce. Combined with the small boundaries (less than 65 m at several points), it is a recipe for run-scoring.
