Batting first, MI were reduced to 20/3 in the Powerplay, before youngsters Tilak Varma and Nehal Wadhera led a recovery effort, helping MI post 179/9. Sandeep Sharma was the star with the ball, as he picked up 5/18.
In response, RR openers Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 61 in the Powerplay before Jaiswal went on to score an unbeaten century and help RR secure a nine-wicket win with eight deliveries to spare.
'Leading by example' - Fans hail RR skipper Sanju Samson for allowing Yashasvi Jaiswal to compete century against MI
Jaiswal finished on 104 not out off 60 balls, reaching the three-figure mark with a single off Tilak Vama. However, many fans hailed his batting partner and captain Sanju Samson for allowing him to get to the mark.
With 10 runs required off the last three overs, Samson chose to knock the ball around for singles, giving Jaiswal the strike as the latter approached a century. His approach came in for praise from RR fans.
Loved the way Sanju Samson was supporting Yashasvi Jaiswal today and backing him to score the century by taking singles to make sure @ybj_19 is at the strike 👌

Sanju Samson played slowly so Yashasvi Jaiswal could get his hundred. Also he wanted Yashasvi to score winning runs.

Such a humble and selfless man. #SanjuSamson #RRvMI pic.twitter.com/tCY4zfn55T
Sanju Samson is the most underrated captain of IPL. He literally made all of us fall in love with "Rajasthan Royals" ever since he has been appointed as captain of RR.

Most of the people has RR as their second most favourite team.
Well done Sanju, keep it up❤️ pic.twitter.com/Q8q45HH5Lv
I love the way Sanju Samson made sure that Jaiswal gets his century comfortably. Samson, didn't try to go for boundaries and sixes so that Jaiswal gets to his 100 and get his form back.

Sanju knows the importance of this knock, this knock should give Jaiswal his spot in T20I WC❤️ pic.twitter.com/WNuobTSvhy
This reaction came in stark contrast to an incident from last year, when India captain Hardik Pandya smashed a six against West Indies to finish off a run chase but leaving Tilak Varma stranded on 49 not out.
