Pace bowling sensation Mayank Yadav walked off the field after bowling just one over during Lucknow Super Giants' (LSG) game against Gujarat Titans (GT) which took place on Sunday, April 7.  

There were fears that the 21-year-old would remain on the sidelines for a lengthy period, but it seems that the tearaway quick will not miss out on a lot of action.

“He (Yadav) is fit and fine and will be playing the next match against Delhi Capitals (DC) here in Lucknow. He chose to go out of the ground after he felt a side strain during bowling. It’s up to the player’s comfort when he decides to take a rest,” an LSG official who chose to remain anonymous was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times on Monday, April 8.

Mayank Yadav to return against MI? Pacer passes fitness tests

On Monday, April 29, LSG bowling coach Morne Morkel confirmed that the pacer would return for their match against MI on April 30, as he had passed all his fitness tests. In the pre-match press conference, Morkel said,

Mayank Yadav is fit. He has passed all his fitness tests. We are excited to have him back in the squad and in the potential playing 12 tomorrow.

On Tuesday morning, the franchise's official account also teased Mayank's return on social media.

However, after taking the wicket of Mohammad Nabi on the first ball of his final over against Mumbai Indians, the 21-year-old walked off the pitch due to a possible injury relapse.

The 21-year-old speedster has missed the games against Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders, the double-header against Chennai Super Kings and the home game vs Rajasthan Royals.

Mayank has stolen the spotlight with his incredible bowling performances in IPL 2024. The Delhi-born bowler made his IPL debut this season on March 30 against Punjab Kings, registering figures of 3-27 in four overs to win the Man of the Match award. He also bowled the fastest delivery of the season, clocked at 155.8 kmph.

In his second game, he was even more impressive, giving away just 14 runs for 3 wickets in 4 overs against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, winning yet another Man of the Match award. He broke his own record for the fastest ball of IPL 2024, delivering a ball at 156.7 kmph.
