What is the Afro-Asia Cup in Cricket?

The Afro-Asia Cup is a series of white-ball cricket matches contested between an Asian XI and an African XI.

Established with the aim of raising funds for the development of cricket in both regions, the tournament features a blend of One Day Internationals (ODIs) and Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).

The tournament was organized by the Asia Cricket Council (ACC) and the Africa Cricket Association (ACA) with the purpose of roviding a platform for players from diverse backgrounds to compete against international opponents.

2005 Afro-Asia Cup

The inaugural Afro-Asia Cup took place in 2005 in South Africa. This first edition consisted of three ODIs, all of which were officially recognized by the International Cricket Council (ICC) as One Day Internationals.

The series was highly competitive, with the African XI and Asian XI each securing victories in one match, while the final match ended in a no-result due to rain. As a result, the series was declared a tie, with the trophy shared between the two teams.

2007 Afro-Asia Cup

The second edition of the Afro-Asia Cup was held in 2007 in India. This tournament expanded its format to include not only three ODIs but also three T20Is, although the T20 matches did not carry official international status.

The Asian XI dominated the competition, winning the only T20 and also all three ODIs and securing the series title decisively.
