The weather forecast had already hinted at rain and thunderstorms, and this played out early in the match. Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bowl first, but the game faced delays almost immediately.

On Day 2 when there were no major rain interruptions, Australia managed to put up a score of 445 runs and went on to dismantle India on Day 3 and Day 4 when there were constant rain stoppages as well.

So far, just around 200 overs have been bowled in the Test as it is raining again on the Day 5 morning, causing a serious concern of a washout.

A washout could have significant consequences for India’s chances of making it to the World Test Championship final.

How will India's WTC final chances be affected if Brisbane Test is washed out?

If rain continues to disrupt the match and it ends in a draw, both India and Australia will share four WTC points each. This outcome would not favor India, as they need to win all their remaining matches to secure a spot in the WTC final.

A draw will increase India’s total points to 114, but their win percentage will drop to 55.88%. Australia, on the other hand, will have 106 points with a win percentage of 58.89%.

This means India will remain in third place, while Australia will hold on to the second spot. South Africa will continue to lead the table.

Why the Brisbane Test was a must-win for India?

India’s current position in the WTC standings requires them to win at least 2 games and draw one to keep their hopes alive for the final.

Sharing points with Australia in Brisbane due to a washout will make their journey to the final slightly harder, but it will make the next two games at Melbourne and Sydney must-wins for the Indians.
