The Indian Premier League (IPL) has served plenty of entertainment for fans ever since its inaugural edition in 2008.

The league has usually benefitted the batsmen, with four of IPL's six 250+ scores coming in the 2024 season itself. The game is increasingly becoming difficult for bowlers.

Who will win the Purple Cap in IPL 2024? Predictions and chances

Hot favourites

Yuzvendra Chahal: Yuzi is on course to reaching 200 IPL wickets, the first-ever bowler in league history to reach the milestone. It's not just that, though, as he is leading the wicket-taking charts in IPL 2024 and has returned to his best form.

Jasprit Bumrah: Mumbai's bowling spearhead has 10 wickets from six games, which includes a fifer. His current form nicely sets him up to be one of the most likely bowlers to win the Purple Cap this season.

Matheesha Pathirana: 'Baby Malinga' has been in devastating form for the Super Kings, picking up eight wickets in three games. He single-handedly titled the game against Mumbai Indians in CSK's favour, and he looks set to be one of the hot favourites to win the IPL 2024 Purple Cap.

Favourites

Mustafizur Rahman: With 10 wickets in five games, Mustafizur has been simply sensational for his new franchise, CSK. He will be instrumental for CSK, and is among the favourites to clinch the Purple Cap.

Pat Cummins: The SRH skipper has been phenomenal this season, both with the ball and with his leadership. The Australian has nine wickets in six games.

Kagiso Rabada: After not enjoying a particularly good IPL 2023 individually, Rabada is looking lethal in 2024, taking nine wickets at an average of 21.22 and an economy rate of less than 8.

Contenders

Gerald Coetzee: With nine wickets in his first six games of his debut IPL campaign, Coetzee has become one of the top contenders to win the Purple Cap. Even though he has been very leaky, his wicket-taking ability is an undeniable asset.

Arshdeep Singh: Arshdeep has continued to perform well in the Indian Premier League, and has already scalped nine wickets. His form prior to the 2024 T20 World Cup bodes well for India.

Khaleel Ahmed: The left-arm pacer is enjoying a great season up until this point, taking nine wickets in six games.

Vaibhav Arora: Although the KKR pacer has not played all games this season, he is among the top wicket-takers. In fact, he is the leading wicket-taker for his team in IPL 2024. If he continues his rich vein of form for KKR, he could be among the contenders to take the Purple Cap.

Outside chance

Mohit Sharma: Mohit took a whopping 27 wickets in 14 games for Gujarat Titans in 2023, but still didn't win the Purple Cap, with fellow teammate Mohammed Shami taking 28 wickets. This season, the veteran pacer has looked in decent form, taking eight wickets in six games. If he starts scalping wickets at an increased rate, he could well be among the top wicket-takers come the end of the season.

Mayank Yadav: The pace sensation has only played two games before being sidelined due to an abdominal injury. However, in those two games, he picked up six wickets, displaying an immaculate sense of maturity. In a situation where LSG qualify for the playoffs and Mayank returns from the injury to be just as effective, he could well make a late push to win the Purple Cap.

Kuldeep Yadav: Although the wily left-arm spinner missed three games for DC, Kuldeep has already scalped six wickets. He is in the form of his life, and if DC do manage to qualify for the playoffs, it will be in large part thanks to Kuldeep.
