His last competitive appearance came in January, and while hopes are pinned on his IPL 2025 comeback for Mumbai Indians, no official timeline has been confirmed.
The main concern surrounding Bumrah is the toll his rigorous bowling action and heavy workload have taken on his body. His absence from the Champions Trophy may not have hurt India’s campaign, but tougher challenges lie ahead.

Was Jasprit Bumrah overused in Australia during BGT?
During the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) in Australia, Bumrah shouldered a significant burden, playing all five Tests without a break.
Former New Zealand fast bowler Shane Bond has now issued a warning and said that such excessive usage could have long-term repercussions for the pacer. He added that if India follows the same pattern in England, the consequences could be severe.

What did Shane Bond say about Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness?
Shane Bond, who has worked closely with Bumrah at Mumbai Indians, highlighted that although the bowler managed to avoid a full-blown fracture, he came dangerously close to one.
According to Bond, Bumrah’s performances in Australia were remarkable, but he was simply overworked within a short period.
"I don’t think so. He had the [2023] surgery, but he played all the [Australia] Test series and performed unbelievably. At the end of the day, he just bowled too much over one month, and it hasn’t cracked, he hasn’t got a fracture, he is on the borderline of a fracture," Bond said as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
The ex-Kiwi pacer stressed the importance of workload management, especially with a demanding schedule ahead. India faces a long Test series in England and Bond believes that overburdening Bumrah again would yield the same unfortunate results.
"But what India would have learned is, if you then look at a five-Test series in England and they do the same thing, they are probably going to get the same result," he added.
Managing Bumrah’s workload effectively is now a priority for both the BCCI and Mumbai Indians. With IPL 2025 set to be his probable comeback stage, MI needs to ensure that he isn’t overused again.
