Put in to bat, SRH openers Mayank Agarwal and Travis Head helped them score a massive 81 in the powerplay, before they raced to 148 in 10 overs, and 201 in 15 overs. They eventually finished on 277/3, the highest-ever IPL score thanks to an end-overs blitz from Heinrich Klaasen (80*) and Aiden Markram (42*).

In reply, MI also managed to stay alongside the required run rate of 14 an over, as they scored 141/2 in the first 10 overs and finished on 246/5, an incredible effort. Between them, the two sides sent all kinds of records tumbling.

SRH vs MI, IPL 2024: Records tumble as Sunrisers Hyderabad register historic win over Mumbai Indians

Fastest half-century for SRH

The first innings began with Travis Head registering a fifty off just 18 balls, the fastest for SRH in their history. Just 20 or so minutes later, the record was snatched away from him as number three Abhishe Sharma reached the milestone in just 16 deliveries.

Highest IPL total in 10 overs

At the halfway stage of their innings, SRH had racked up 148/2, and at that point could potentially have been on course for 300. This is the highest score in 10 overs in IPL history, beating Mumbai Indians' 131/3 in 2021.

Highest-ever IPL total

SRH went on to record the highest score in IPL history. RCB scored 263/5 in 2013, riding on Chris Gayle's record 175 before the home side's effort today meant they went 14 runs past that.

Second-fastest 200 in IPL history

The effort from RCB saw them reach the mark of 200 in 14.1 overs, the fastest in the history of the league. This was one record SRH could not break, though, as they reached the mark in 14.4 overs, just 3 balls slower.

Most sixes in an IPL match

The record for the most sixes in an IPL match is 33, hit during CSK vs RCB (2018), RR vs CSK (2021) and RCB vs CSK (2023). This match saw that record shattered as well. SRH hit 18 sixes in the first innings, before MI hit a further 20 to take the match tally to 38.

Most runs scored in an IPL match

Prior to this match, the highest aggregate of runs in an IPL match was 469. Chennai Super Kings scored 246/5 in 2010, before Rajasthan Royals' chase ended on 223/5. This match smashed past that tally, with a total of 523 runs.
