Kicking off the four-match series, hosts South Africa will be eager to seize an early advantage as they face India in the opener on Wednesday, November 8, at Durban’s Kingsmead Stadium.
The Proteas arrives with momentum, having recently secured a 2-0 Test series victory over Bangladesh on their home soil. Their last T20I outing was against Ireland in Abu Dhabi in late September, where the series ended in a 1-1 draw.
India, meanwhile, is coming off a 3-0 home Test series loss to New Zealand. This squad will be different from the squad that played that Test series. This T20I side last played against Bangladesh in October, winning the three-match series 3-0.

South Africa vs. India 1st T20I: Live Updates
12:12 AM: India emerge victors by 61 runs, as South Africa are bundled up for 141 inside 18 overs. South Africa 141/10 in 17.5 overs. The Indian pacers provide the finishing touch to the one-sided encounter, as Arshdeep and Avesh bag the final wickets of the match. South African batters were all lacklustre in Durban, as Heinrich Klaasen finished as highest-scorer, with 25. Gerald Coetzee scored a quick-fire 23 off 11, but did little damage.
India take 1-0 lead in the four-match series.
11:51 PM: Indian spinners are all over South Africa, as both Varun Chakravarthy and Ravi Bishnoi end their spells with three wickets each. South Africa are down to 114/8 in 15 overs. The tail-enders are finally in, and this should be a cake walk for India now. South Africa need 89 off 30 deliveries, but this is just a formality now, one can believe.
11:37 PM: Klaasen goes six, and OUT! Varun Chakravarthy gets the big scalp! And just as we say that, he gets another one - David Miller. What magic is he even weaving! Chakravarthy gets his third, as India are cruising towards a win. The hosts are in a spot of bother, as they lose half their side inside 12 overs. South Africa are 87-5 in 12 overs.
11:08 PM: South Africa start strong with 44/2 in 5 overs. However, the visitors will be the happier side, after sending the dangerous Tristan Stubbs and Aiden Markram back to the dugout. Heinrich Klaasen and Ryan Rickleton are the middle for the Proteans, who need 159 runs from 50 overs. Klaasen vs the Indian spinners should be a treat to watch, as Varun Chakravarthy is thrown into the attack.
10:18 PM: India are restricted to 202 runs, as South Africa concede just 40 runs in the last six overs. A flurry of wickets towards the end help the hosts to restrain their opponents to a much lower score. Gerald Coetzee does the trick for South Africa, wiping out India's dangerous middle-order. South Africa can take a lot of motivation on how the innings ended, knowing their opponents could have scored at least 20 runs more. India finish at 202/8 in 20 overs.
09:48 PM: India are 169/3 in 15 overs. The visitors have upped the ante in the last five overs, scoring at 14 runs per over. Sanju Samson scores yet another century (100* off 47), and becomes the first Indian batter to score consecutive centuries in T20 Internationals. Tilak Varma is dismissed for a well-made 33 off just 18 balls, and is replaced by Hardik Pandya.
09:23 PM: The innings is at the halfway stage. India are one run short of hundred, as Suryakumar Yadav is the latest Indian batter to return to the pavilion. Sanju Samson has scored 59 in just 33 balls, and is anchoring the Indian innings. IND are 99/1 at 10 overs.
8:58 PM: End of the powerplay. That's a solid powerplay for India. Samson and Suryakumar Yadav have done well, keeping the run rate close to 10 runs per over. At the end of the powerplay, India are off to a strong position, with a score of 56/1.
