As the season progresses, the BCCI has taken swift action to penalise teams that fail to meet the mandated time restrictions. As per Clause 12.6 of the IPL Playing Conditions, teams must bowl 14.11 overs per hour.

This translates to completing 20 overs within 90 minutes of the start of an innings including time-outs. Failure to meet these conditions leads to immediate consequences -- from fielding restrictions to financial penalties for the captain and team.

A first offence results in a ₹12 lakh fine for the captain. For a second breach -- the fine doubles to ₹24 lakh and the rest of the playing XI are fined ₹6 lakh or 25% of their match fees -- whichever is lower.

Earlier, repeat offences used to carry match suspensions but the BCCI has scrapped that rule for the 2025 season.
