DC chose to bat first, and were given a blistering start by openers David Warner (52) and Prithvi Shaw (43). Matheesha Pathirana ended up as the star with the ball for CSK, picking up three wickets even as the Capitals scored 191/5.
In reply, CSK got off to a poor start as Khaleel ahmed restricted their scoring and picked up two wickets in the Powerplay. They eventually fell short by 20 runs, despite a late flourish from MS Dhoni.

Dhoni came out to bat at number eight, in a near-impossible situation as CSK needed 72 more runs off 23 balls. He was unable to take them over the line, but played some scintillating shots as he smashed his way to 37* off 16 balls.
