Mumbai Indians announced Hardik Pandya as their captain for the second season in a row after retaining the all-rounder for the next season on the deadline day,  October 31.

Pandya was among the five names alongside former captain, Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma and MI's highest-paid retention, Jasprit Bumrah.

What did Hardik Pandya say about MI's five retentions ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction?

As the retentions were announced by the teams, MI announced Hardik as their leader for consecutive years through Mahela Jayawardene before Hardik talked to JioCinema about his retention,

"It's been fantastic. I think I have received a lot of love back. It means the world to me, as I've always mentioned, my journey started here. Everything I've achieved in my life has been a part of Mumbai Indians. Playing again, every year is a special year, and this year is going to be even more special. We remember as a group 2013, 2015, 2017, '19 and '20," he said.

"Five people who have cherished good memories together. We are five fingers but one fist. That's how I look at it. We are going to come all guns blazing. Brotherhood, friendship, and at the same time, we are going to back each other no matter what happens," Pandya said about MI's retentions.

Which players did Mumbai Indians retain for IPL 2025?

Deservingly, Jasprit Bumrah was awarded the highest slab among the retained players, while SKY, Hardik and Rohit's prices were separated by a small margin.

Surprisingly, Tilak Varma was the fifth retained player instead of Ishan Kishan, as the Mumbai franchise looks to build on a very strong core of players.
