Mohammad Rizwan has been named the new captain of Pakistan's white-ball teams. The wicketkeeper-batter takes over the reins from Babar Azam, who stepped down from the role to focus on his batting performances.

The announcement was made by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who also confirmed that Salman Ali Agha would serve as Rizwan’s deputy in the limited-overs formats.

Reacting to the announcement, Mohammad Rizwan expressed his gratitude for being entrusted with such a crucial role. He added that representing Pakistan on the global stage is a privilege.

“I am deeply honoured to be appointed as Pakistan’s white-ball captain. Representing Pakistan on the global stage is the greatest privilege and to now be entrusted with leading such a talented and exciting group of players is a tremendous honour. Joining the ranks of some of Pakistan’s legendary limited-overs captains truly is the icing on the cake," Rizwan stated in his official statement.

Rizwan emphasized his commitment to giving his best as captain and working closely with selectors, coaches, and his teammates to meet the high expectations of Pakistani fans.

“I am committed to giving my absolute best in this role and look forward to working closely with the selectors, coaches and my immensely talented teammates. Together, we aim to meet and exceed the expectations of our fans and supporters,"

How has Mohammad Rizwan performed in white-ball Cricket?

Rizwan’s rise to the captaincy comes on the back of consistent performances in both One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). With 74 ODIs and 102 T20Is to his name, Rizwan has been a key figure in Pakistan's white-ball setup.

In ODIs, he averages an impressive 40.15, while in T20Is, his average stands at a remarkable 48.72. His consistent contributions as a top-order batter and wicketkeeper have made him a vital asset to the team.
