The first major Canadian curling event of 2023 is finished. 

The Scotties Tournament of Hearts ended Sunday, Feb. 26, in Kamloops, B.C., as the best Canadian women's curling players met for a week and a half of competition. 

The annual competition determines the representative for Canada at the women's world curling championships. In addition, the winning club receives a cash prize and gold rings in the four-heart design of the Tournament of Hearts logo.

Kerri Einarson and her crew returned as Team Canada. Einarson's squad has now won four championships in a row, with triumphs in 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023.

When is the 2023 Scotties?

This tournament began Friday, Feb. 17, and ran until Sunday, Feb. 26. 

Pool play was from the 17th to the 23rd. The playoff and page playoffs took place on the 24th and 25th before the semifinals and final wrapped up the action on the 26th. 

What channel is the 2023 Scotties on?

The Scotties Tournament of Hearts was broadcast on TSN with live streaming available on TSN.ca and in the TSN app.

Longtime curling announcer Vic Rauter was set to be in the booth, splitting play-by-play duties with Bryan Mudryk. Cathy Gauthier, Joanne Courtney and Russ Howard joined the team as analysts.

Where is the 2023 Scotties taking place?

The 42nd edition of the tournament was played at the Sandman Centre in Kamloops, B.C.

This was the first time that Kamloops had hosted the Scotties and the first time the tournament was in British Columbia since 2018, when it was held in Penticton. 

What is the purse for the 2023 Scotties?

The 18 teams competed for a share of a $300,000 purse. 

Here is the breakdown of prize money for the event: 

1st: $100,000
2nd: $60,000
3rd: $40,000
Championship Pool (4th-8th): $15,000
Non-Championship Pool (9th-18th): $2,500

In addition to $100,000, the winner of the 2023 Scotties will represent Canada at the 2023 LGT World Women’s Curling Championship. That tournament will be played in mid-March and Sandviken, Sweden, will host the event. 

2023 Scotties pools

The 18 teams at the tournament were broken up into two pools of nine. There was one team from each province in Canada and a team from Northern Ontario. There were three wild-card teams and Team Canada, which is the winning squad from the previous year.

Each team played one another during the pool play, totaling eight matches. The top three teams from each pool advanced to the championship round.
