The NFL's ranks are filled with colossuses, giants whose collisions mimic tectonic plates smashing into one another when they come into contact at full speed.

But there are multiple ways to find big-league success. While a baseline of strength and endurance is needed to succeed at the next level, the nature by which those traits are cultivated is different for each player. If you're a defensive tackle, you might need a few pounds to dish out punishment to opposition linemen and attackers. If you're a wide receiver? Maybe not so much.

The 2025 NFL Draft sees more than a few notable pass-catchers take the stage, from Travis Hunter and Emeka Egbuka to Luther Burden III and Jack Bech. Oregon alum Tez Johnson is no exception, emerging as one of his class' more compelling prospects. He carries a frenzied approach at the line of scrimmage, routinely displacing his adversaries with quick, precise bursts on release, skills that look destined to translate in the pros.

Oh, and he's one of the lightest talents to garner draft consideration in some time — if not ever.

With that, here's what you need to know about Johnson's weight and how it compares to other draft prospects, past and present.

How much does Tez Johnson weigh?

Johnson weighed in at 154 pounds during the NFL combine, by far the lightest figure among any player in his class. Johnson's weight was 26 pounds smaller than the next lightest wideout, Isaiah Bond.

As is the case with most NFL players, Johnson will have to bulk up at the next level. But if he were to take part in games at his present weight, Johnson would certainly rank among the lightest players to ever play a down in the NFL.

For what it's worth, Johnson isn't the only sub-160 pounder to play real minutes in FBS ball. Desmon White collected more than 1,000 receiving yards across four seasons with TCU from 2014-17, while former Boise State defensive back Donte Deayon nabbed eight interceptions — two for touchdowns — during his time with the Broncos.

Still, Johnson's weight remains a curious case. He's far from the first prospect to experience such a dilemma.

Lightest NFL players ever drafted

As it stands, Johnson would rank as the lightest player ever selected in the NFL Draft if he were to hear his name called in the coming few days.

It's worth noting that Johnson was listed at 165 pounds during his playing days with the Ducks. If Johnson were to gain some weight ahead of the regular season, he'd have a chance to surpass other middleweights like Tutu Atwell, Emmanuel Forbes and Tank Dell.

Here is the list of the lightest NFL Draft picks, based on their listed weight during the pre-draft process:

RankPlayerHeightWeightPos.Draft year
1.Tutu Atwell5-9155 lbs.WR2021
2.Xavier Worthy5-11165 lbs.WR2024
 Emmanuel Forbes6-1166 lbs.CB2023
 Tank Dell5-8166 lbs.WR2023
 Derius Davis5-8165 lbs.WR2023
 Trindon Holliday5-5166 lbs.WR2010

Johnson sits one pound beneath Atwell. So, if he does garner interest from an NFL franchise come draft day, expect plenty of fanfare. It's little surprise why Johnson, destined for a role as a slot man on a roster, is drawing comparison to other diminutive pass-catchers like Atwell and Dell as of late.
