The biggest draft day storyline leading up to the first round was the Jaguars' reported desire to start off their new regime with a bold move. Mission accomplished.

Jacksonville swung a deal with the Browns to jump up to the No. 2 pick and select reigning Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter, adding the two-way star to a franchise desperate for star talent around QB Trevor Lawrence.

The Browns made it clear they viewed Hunter as a receiver first. The Titans said they saw Hunter as a cornerback first. What about the Jaguars?

Here's what you need to know about Hunter's fit with both the Jaguars' offense and defense as he heads to Jacksonville.

How Travis Hunter fits with Jaguars' offense

The Jaguars figure to let Hunter do most of his work at the wide receiver position to start his career. A stud as a receiver at Colorado even while his focus was split with another position, Hunter could give Lawrence one of the most dynamic receiving duos in the NFL from day one alongside Brian Thomas Jr.

Did the Jaguars need to trade up for Hunter after Thomas' breakout season? While Thomas might be a legitimate No. 1 receiver, Jacksonville doesn't have much around him. Gabe Davis disappointed in his first season with the Jaguars and was added by a different regime, while Dyami Brown was the franchise's only wide receiver addition in free agency after trading Christian Kirk.

The Jaguars plan to give Hunter a "heavy dose" of work at the wide receiver position, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported after Thursday's selection. That was reiterated by coach Liam Coen later in the evening.

Thomas' presence takes pressure off Hunter, who doesn't have to be a No. 1 receiver from day one, but the Jaguars absolutely have plans to use the No. 2 pick early and often as a weapon for Lawrence with an eye toward finally giving their quarterback an above-average arsenal of talent to work with.

How Travis Hunter fits with Jaguars' defense

The Jaguars' reported interest in Ashton Jeanty drew some criticism because the franchise has so many needs on both sides of the ball. How about one player who solves two of them?

While it's not clear whether Hunter will be an every-down player on both sides of the ball, he is reportedly going to play offense and defense — and the impact he can have on the Jaguars' pass defense shouldn't be underestimated.

One of the nation's most effective cornerbacks in coverage at Colorado last season, Hunter joins a secondary with questions. CB Tyson Campbell has struggled to replicate his breakout 2022 season, and there are no proven options opposite the fourth-year starter.

The Jaguars did shore up the slot corner role by signing Jourdan Lewis, so there may be enough bodies that Hunter doesn't need to play every defensive snap, but there is enough of a need that Jacksonville fans should expect to see the Heisman winner on the defensive side of the ball from time to time as a rookie.
