After endless rumors and speculation about what the Pittsburgh Steelers would do in the first round of the 2025 NFL draft, the question was finally answered when the team drafted Oregon defensive lineman Derrick Harmon at No. 21 overall.

The Steelers had quite the decision to make before selecting Harmon in the first round, as both Jaxson Dart and Shedeur Sanders were on the board, and we know Pittsburgh has a dire need at quarterback, even if the team lands Aaron Rodgers.

However, Pittsburgh opted to address its huge need on defense that will hopefully give the Steelers an upgrade next to Cameron Heyward. Meanwhile, Dart went to the New York Giants, and Sanders is still on the board after a shocking slide.

"Extreme urgency," head coach Mike Tomlin admitted of his desire to get Harmon. "To be quite honest with you, there's no substitute for young talent. You don't have a chance to fill a quality defense unless you're stout inside and up front. And this is a young guy that has an opportunity to learn from the likes of Cam Heyward and put his hand in that pile — and be a significant contributor for years to come."

Now, the Steelers turn the page to Day 2 of the draft, where they may not have much action. That's because the Steelers only have one selection on Friday, which comes in the third round at No. 83 overall.

Remaining Steelers 2025 NFL draft picks

  • Round 3: No. 83 (Day 2)
  • Round 4: No. 123 (Day 3)
  • Round 5: No. 156 (Day 3)
  • Round 6: No. 185 (Day 3)
  • Round 7: No. 229 (Day 3)

Will Steelers trade up for a quarterback?

The Steelers still need a quarterback, and while both Sanders and Jalen Milroe are still on the board going into Day 2, they are highly unlikely to fall to Pittsburgh's spot in the third round.

If the Steelers want either one, they'll likely have to trade up into the second round, a move that would prove very costly. Even if they can orchestrate a trade up, one of Milroe or Sanders will probably be gone when the Cleveland Browns are on the board at No. 33.

If the Steelers don't trade up and stick in their third-round spot, the list of available quarterbacks could include Louisville's Tyler Shough, Ohio State's Will Howard, Texas' Quinn Ewers and Syracuse's Kyle McCord.
