Everton vs. Liverpool called off: Premier League Merseyside derby postponed on safety grounds due to severe weather image

Everton and Liverpool had been due to resume Merseyside derby hostilities in Saturday's early kickoff after contrasting results in the midweek Premier League round.

However, the match was postponed due to travel disruption and safety concerns caused by Storm Darragh, which made landfall on the UK's west coast in the early hours of Saturday after first striking the Republic of Ireland.

The Premier League said in a statement: "Following a Safety Advisory Group meeting at Goodison Park, attended by officials from both clubs, as well as representatives from Merseyside Police and Liverpool City Council this morning, it was decided that, due to the risk to safety in the local area and the amber severe wind warning that remains in place until 06:00 GMT on Sunday, today's fixture should be postponed on safety grounds."

A new date and time for the fixture has yet to be decided.

Everton vs. Liverpool lineups, team news

Armando Broja finally made his first league appearance of the season for Everton as a late substitute against Wolves, but it seems unlikely he will be rushed into a starting role against Liverpool despite his impressive cameo.

James Garner is likely still out with a back issue, while Tim Iroegbunam is recovering from a foot problem. Youssef Chermiti and Dele Alli are longer-term absentees.

Everton predicted lineup (4-2-3-1, right to left): Pickford (GK) — Young, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko — Mangala, Gueye — Ndiaye, Doucoure, McNeil — Calvert-Lewin

Liverpool continue to manage injury issues in defence, while they will be without midfielder Alexis Mac Allister due to suspension for yellow-card accumulation.

Konstantinos Tsimikas is not ready to return from a foot problem, while Conor Bradley (thigh) and Ibrahima Konate (knee) are not likely to be back until towards the end of this month.

Alisson could return in goal, although Caoimhin Kelleher is expected to keep his place for this week despite his error in allowing Fabian Schar to equalise for Newcastle.

In attack, Diogo Jota is still working on a return to fitness, as is Federico Chiesa.

Liverpool predicted lineup (4-2-3-1, right to left): Kelleher (GK) — Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson — Gravenberch, Jones — Salah, Szoboszlai, Diaz — Nunez
