With both teams topping the Serie A standings, Inter Milan and AC Milan will square off on Saturday in what promises to be another exciting episode of the Derby della Madonnina at the legendary San Siro.

In a nod to the 1971–72 season, when both teams got off to a fast start but ultimately missed out on the Scudetto, each team has jumped out of the starting blocks this season, winning three straight. This one is going to be a true barnburner, regardless of history.

Simone Inzaghi's Inter is still in high spirits after thrashing Fiorentina 4-0 right before the international break. With at least two goals in each of their first league games, the Nerazzurri have been incredibly sharp.

Conversely, AC Milan has also been fast to get going, frequently taking the first punch early and scoring twice in the first quarter. However, Stefano Pioli's team hasn't exactly slammed the door shut at the back, failing to keep a single clean sheet thus far, even though their attacking flair has kept them going.

The Sporting News looks at the key details ahead of this game, including how to watch the match, kickoff times and the latest lineup news.

Inter Milan vs. AC Milan lineups, team news

Inter Milan’s fixture list isn’t letting up anytime soon, and Simone Inzaghi’s got his hands full juggling his squad ahead of a crucial doubleheader. With a heavyweight showdown against Roma looming on Saturday, followed closely by the Champions League semi-final opener against Barcelona, squad rotation is more necessity than luxury.

While looming suspensions for Alessandro Bastoni and Henrikh Mkhitaryan will only sideline them in domestic play, Inzaghi’s injury list remains a thorn in his side. Denzel Dumfries and Piotr Zielinski are still stuck on the treatment table, and to make matters worse, Marcus Thuram’s availability is hanging by a thread.

With Thuram on the mend, Joaquin Correa got the nod to partner Lautaro Martinez in the Bologna clash, but Marko Arnautovic and Mehdi Taremi are both knocking on the door for a chance to lead the line. As for Martinez, he’s got a bit of history in his sights—just one more goal, and he’ll join an elite club of Inter greats to have hit double digits against city rivals Milan across all competitions.

Inter Milan predicted XI (3-5-2, right to left): Sommer (GK) — Bisseck, De Vrij, Bastoni — Darmian, Barella, Calhanoglu, Mkhitaryan, Augusto — Taremi, Martinez.

Injured: Denzel Dumfries, Piotr Zielinski, Marcus Thuram (doubt).
Suspended: Alessandro Bastoni, Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Over on the red and black side of Milan, the Rossoneri have a few aces up their sleeve in the striker department. Santiago Gimenez is back in the mix after shaking off an injury and even logged some late minutes in the recent tilt against Atalanta. He’s expected to warm the bench for now, as Tammy Abraham and Luka Jovic go toe-to-toe for the starting gig up top.

Manager Sergio Conceicao has recently hit the tactical refresh button, rolling out a 3-4-3 formation that’s given the front line a new coat of paint. That attacking trio will look to cause chaos, even with a few key names missing in the back.

Full-backs Kyle Walker and Emerson Royal remain out of commission, along with midfield engine Ruben Loftus-Cheek. That means young Alex Jimenez should keep his spot on the right wing, tasked with stretching the pitch and holding down the fort in Conceicao’s revamped setup.

AC Milan predicted XI (3-4-3, right to left): Maignan (GK) — Tomori, Gabbia, Pavlovic — Jimenez, Fofana, Reijnders, Hernandez — Pulisic, Abraham, Leao.

Injured: Kyle Walker, Emerson Royal, Ruben Loftus-Cheek
Suspended: Alessandro Bastoni, Henrikh Mkhitaryan
